How useful was this tool?
Enter the total length of your fence in feet.
Select the fence height (this sets the number of horizontal rails).
Enter the spacing between posts and the picket width and gap in inches.
Click Calculate for materials needed.
Posts are typically spaced 6โ8 feet apart and set in concrete. The number of horizontal rails grows with height (2 for 4ft, 3 for 6ft). Pickets count = (fence length ร 12) รท (picket width + gap), rounded up. Buy ~5% extra for waste and mistakes.
Standard spacing is 6โ8 feet on center. Wider spacing saves posts but rails may sag; closer spacing is sturdier in wind.
