How useful was this tool?
Enter your lens focal length in mm.
Enter the aperture (f-number) you are shooting at.
Enter the distance to your subject in meters.
Select your camera sensor size (sets the circle of confusion).
Click Calculate for near/far focus limits and depth of field.
Depth of field is the range of distances that appear acceptably sharp. Wider apertures (smaller f-number) and longer focal lengths give a shallower DoF (more background blur). The hyperfocal distance is the focus distance giving the greatest total sharp range, from half that distance to infinity.
Use a longer focal length, a wider aperture (smaller f-number), move closer, and keep more distance behind the subject. A full-frame sensor also helps.
